"Within every woman there is a wild and natural creature, a powerful force, filled with good instincts, passionate creativity, and ageless knowing. Her name is the Wild Woman, but she is an endangered species. Through the gifts of the wildish nature come to us at birth, society's attempt to 'civilise' us into right roles has plundered this treasure, and muffled the deep, life-giving messages of our souls."
Clarissa Pinkola-Estes, Women Who Run with the Wolves
Ayurvedic proverb
Ayurveda is a Sanskrit word that translates to 'the sacred knowledge of life.'
Ayur = life; Veda=knowledge or wisdom. It is a 5000+ year old healing tradition that was cognised in the Indus Valley by Risihis (seers) in the Vedic Culture. This knowledge was passed orally from Guru to disciple for generations before it was written down.
As the quote hints at, the emphasis in Ayurveda is on prevention and maintenance of an individuals health by paying attention to balance. Balance in thinking, in diet, in lifestyle and in emotions. Knowing and understanding (even a basic one) of Ayurveda can help make to make changes based on your constitution or prakruiti.
One of the things i love about Ayurveda is that it is so simple. The key concepts are;
Ayurveda supports life
It is about prevention
Food is medicine; and
It is oppositional medicine
Ayurveda maintains that all life must be supported by balanced energy. When we are in balance the bodies natural defence systems will be strong enough to deal with what ever is causing dis-ease in the body.
The body is designed to heal itself, and because there is often a mental, emotional or psychosomatic element to it, there are Ayurvedic practices that support the discovery of and elimination/reduction of those factors.
Understanding even the basics can fundamentally change your life!
This work is all about you.
It is a process of remembering, of softening, of dissolving and integration.
I support you and facilitate and exploration of your own well-being and depths of your innate wisdom through the lens of Ayurveda. We explore how you might increase Ojas (juiciness), Prana (life force), reduce Ama (toxins) so you look and feel radiant. The ultimate goal is for you to soften into your divine nature, tap into that deep well of wisdom and reclaim your own wild and wise woman.
Together we look at;
Physical | Sleep, elimination, food, movement
Mental | Technology, breath
Emotional | Stress, relationships (especially the one with yourself)
Spiritual | Design your own sadana (daily spiritual practice) that works for you and your lifestyle
You are more powerful than you know and have all the answers to your own questions. Most often it is about getting out of our own way. Of quieting the monkey mind (and our ego) and allowing the heart and higher self to take precedence.
