Bastis

When Your Body Whispers for Deep Healing

Imagine warm healing oils tenderly held against your lower back, neck, knees or belly - or wherever you’ve been carrying the weight of the world. External Basti, a Sanskrit word that means (बस्ति) - to hold, to contain. Bahya (बाह्य) - the outer, the surface we show the world. Together, they create something beautiful: a sacred space where warm, medicated oils are pooled over the parts of you that carry so much.

So what is it?

After a short Ayurvedic massage, a dam of dough is created around the area that needs love, it is filled with warm medicated oil and replaced every few minutes for 20-30 minutes. As you rest the oil seeps deep into muscles that have been holding tension, joints that have been asking for relief, tissues that remember old hurts.

You might find yourself here if:

Your back has been whispering (or shouting) for attention

Your neck carries the weight of endless to-do lists

Your knees remind you of every kilometre you've walked, every burden you've carried

Your body feels stuck, stiff, like it's forgotten how to move with ease

You're recovering from injury and need gentle, focused healing

The physical tension mirrors the emotional tension you've been holding

What This Sacred Practice Gives You

In Your Body: Your muscles begin to soften and release patterns they've held for months, maybe years. Circulation awakens in places that felt forgotten. Inflammation starts to quiet. Your joints remember their natural ease. Pain that felt permanent begins to shift.

In Your Being: As your body softens, so does something deeper. The Vata energy - that scattered, anxious wind that keeps you moving but never settled - begins to ground. You might notice your breath deepening. Your nervous system remembering safety.

In Your Life: Sleep comes easier. Movement feels possible again. You stand taller, sit with less effort. The physical ease creates space for emotional ease. You remember what it feels like to inhabit your body with comfort instead of resignation.
